Our company is in need of a Certified Hazardous Materials Officer who will be responsible for handling, managing and providing advice on hazardous material management ensuring the safety of the organization in compliance with the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations as per local and international standards. His primary role is to manage safety compliances and maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment.
Job responsibilities:
•Supervise the overall operations of hazardous material management in the organization.
•Maintain records in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and act as the point of contact.
•Draft and implement safety policies and procedures in alignment with local and international standards.
•Identify workplace hazards and assess the risks associated with various tasks and processes.
•Recommend control measures to mitigate risks.
•Monitor adherence to safety regulations like OSHA, NEBOSH, or ISO standards.
•Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure workplace safety.
•Develop, revise and implement hazardous materials management programs such as chemical waste plans, chemical spills response plans, hazardous waste minimization plans, hazardous waste contingency plans, etc.
•Handle all processes related to chemical and hazardous waste disposal.
•Communicate the applicable requirements of legal mandates to the Management and concerned employees.
•Prepare and present effective employee training on safe management of hazardous materials and wastes, occupational safety, emergency and non-emergency hazardous material spill responses and other safety training requirements.
•Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
•A Bachelor’s degree in hazardous materials management, environmental science, one of the physical sciences, or a related field.
•Professional certification (e.g. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), CSP, etc.) is preferred.
•Minimum of five (5) years continually responsible experience in Hazardous Material Management.
•Extensive experience in coordinating and implementing hazardous materials and waste compliance programs.
•Knowledge of transport and disposal procedures for safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
•Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
•Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.
•Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, a environmental health standards.
•Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
•Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, a procedures.
